Sydney Brewery Celebrates 20 Years with Opening of Sydney Brewery Alexandria

Sydney, NSW – Sydney Brewery is proudly celebrating 20 years of craft brewing with the launch of its newest venue, Sydney Brewery Alexandria, a vibrant new brewpub that marks an exciting new chapter for the beloved local brewery.

Founded by Dr Jerry Schwartz in 2005 and originally operating as Schwartz Brewery from the basement of the Macquarie Hotel, Sydney Brewery has grown from a modest 800-litre brewhouse to a major player in Australia’s craft beer scene. Known for its suburb-inspired beers like Paddo Pale, Darlo Dark, Surry Hills Pils, and Potts Point Porter, the brewery rebranded as Sydney Brewery in 2012 and quickly cemented itself as a city favourite.

The opening of Sydney Brewery Alexandria follows the brewery’s acquisition of the production site and venue from Rocks Brewing Company earlier this year. The new location, located at 160 Bourke Road, features a 20hL brewhouse and a reimagined hospitality space with a new menu, drinks list, branding, and management.

In addition to the Alexandria site, a new 30hL brewhouse at Lovedale in the Hunter Valley is due to open by July, putting Sydney Brewery on track to nearly triple its brewing capacity in 2024, with production exceeding three million litres annually across all sites.

“The opening of Sydney Brewery Alexandria is the perfect way to celebrate our 20th birthday,” said Dr Schwartz. “It’s not only a milestone for us, but also a reflection of the incredible growth and potential of Australia’s craft brewing industry.”

Despite recent challenges in the craft beer market, Sydney Brewery has continued to thrive – thanks in part to its strong hospitality venues like Sydney Brewery Surry Hills and now Sydney Brewery Alexandria, as well as its presence at major events like the Canberra Craft Beer and Cider Festival and its connection to 15 Schwartz Family Company-owned hotels across the east coast.

“Many of our team have been with us since the early days,” Schwartz added. “Their dedication and the organic growth of our partnerships have helped shape Sydney Brewery into what it is today.”

With Sydney Brewery Alexandria now open to the public, visitors can look forward to enjoying great beer, delicious food, and a fresh new vibe in the heart of Alexandria’s inner-south hospitality scene.

Sydney Brewery Alexandria is open now at 160 Bourke Road, Alexandria.
